To help support the Salina Community and those in need by working hand-in-hand with non-profit organizations. We connect people in the community who are looking for a way to give back and provide them with options on how to get involved. By continually interacting with non-profits to know and understand their unmet needs, we have the goal to help fill those gaps.
When community organizations come together, meaningful change can happen. After meeting with Chad Young of the Salina Rescue Mission and Salina Grace, a need was identified among individuals experiencing homelessness in our community. While food and shelter are critical resources, there are often everyday essentials that can greatly improve comfort, health, and well-being but are not always readily available.
Among the items most needed were insect repellent, personal wipes, and other hygiene supplies. These simple necessities can help individuals stay clean, comfortable, and protected while navigating challenging circumstances.
In response to this need, Love Projects worked together to gather supplies and assemble care bags filled with these essential items. The bags were created to be easily accessible for individuals who need them and are available for pickup as needed.

Through Match Madness, we connected with Kim Cochran at the Community Housing Development Corporation of Central Kansas (CHDO) and learned more about the organization. After meeting for coffee and attending several board meetings, Jenny Bonawitz was invited to join their Board of Directors.
One challenge CHDO identified was that some tenants were unable to maintain their yards due to health, financial, or personal circumstances. Because the City of Salina can issue significant fines for unmowed properties, Love Projects stepped in to help. By mowing several yards, our volunteers not only helped residents avoid costly penalties but also reminded them that they have a community that cares and supports them.

LoveProjects is thrilled to conclude 2023 with excitement!
We have forged a partnership with Caring for Kids. Caring for Kids is a Kansas City nonprofit that functions as a neutral convener to facilitate the development of church and business partnerships with schools by answering the question “How may we help?”
Our upcoming partnership project is with the 8th Grade Center at Hickman Mills Middle School. Hickman Mills is dedicated to helping kids succeed. Love Projects is delighted to contribute to this mission. A recent meeting at Hickman Mills 8th Grade Center was held to understand their school and needs. They have initiated a student incentive program. Kids with a C or above average with no more than 5 tardies and 90-95% attendance are eligible to attend a quarterly party.
Last quarter the party was a big hit with 100 kids achieving this goal! Principal Hawks aims to double this number for the next quarter and anticipates improved test scores in math and reading.

A gift of any amount will help us towards our goal of raising $925 to help the kids at Hickman Mills Middle School.
